A strong national voice for Don Valley's towns and villages

It has been an honour to serve the people of Don Valley as your local Member of Parliament for the past twenty years.

I am proud to seek your support to re-elect me as your MP on 8 June.

People tell me they want a local MP on their side.  Someone who listens and stands up for what’s right.  That’s what I have tried to be since the day I was first elected; which is why I live in Doncaster and knock on doors meeting residents most weeks of the year.

I care about Don Valley because Doncaster is my home as much as it is yours.  Where my children attended local schools; the place I come home to every week from Parliament.  Doncaster is part of who I am.

I have stayed true to the promises made 20 years ago, when elected for the first time.

To live in Doncaster. To have a full time office; and hold regular surgeries in every ward. I’m proud to speak up for over 30 towns and villages that make up Don Valley, from Old Denaby at one end to Thorne at the other.

Standing up for communities when they are not being listened to and helping individuals who cannot fight their corner on their own; I have helped over 20,000 residents with problems, taking on authority, locally and nationally.

Life isn’t always fair.  Which is why, everyone deserves a decent chance in life, not dependent on who your parents are.  I don’t come from a well to do family.  My mum was a working class, lone parent. I never knew my dad.  When I help people, I know what it’s like to be on benefits, to struggle with childcare, to need a job. I have been there.

I want people to get on in life; and I want the very best for Doncaster. I have fought some big battles: winning the airport and saving Thorne and Hatfield Moors. I champion local policing teams; and I’m passionate about children’s education.  I want firms to choose Doncaster.  That’s why I worked to secure the FARRRS link road, the new rail college, and the iPort.  Good local jobs and apprenticeships are top of my list.

When Britain leaves the European Union – I want a deal that works for Doncaster, where workers’ rights are protected, trade is easy and we have necessary immigration controls. I don’t support a second referendum.  We need to bring people together, whether they voted to Leave or Remain, and make a success of Brexit.

Too often, the only voices we hear about Brexit are from Scotland or London.  I’m determined your voice will be heard too.

Doncaster deserves more from Government. Seven years of Tory government have left our NHS struggling; our police and prison services short-handed; and our schools under-funded.

They have been too kind to the energy companies and too soft on large companies who don’t pay fair taxes.  It seems like we don’t all play by the same rules.  That is simply not right.

I will never flinch from opposing injustice; and I will always stand up for work, families, our communities and our country.

Don Valley needs a strong national voice in Westminster and a hardworking local MP on your side.

If you agree, I would welcome your support on 8 June.
