Alistair Darling supports Caroline for Deputy Leader

A message from Alistair Darling:

Dear friend

The most important decision we will take between now and next year's vital elections, and indeed between now and the General Election in 2020, is who we elect as our leadership team both here in Scotland and across the UK.

I'm writing to encourage you to support Caroline Flint to be Labour's next Deputy Leader.

Caroline is a formidable campaigner. During the referendum campaign, Caroline came up many times to fight with us for our United Kingdom. During the General Election too, she was here in Scotland supporting Labour candidates. At a difficult time, her support was an inspiration to many Labour members and supporters.

She fights our corner on the radio, on the news bulletins and on the lion's den that is Question Time. Caroline always goes out to bat for the Labour Party and the people who need a Labour Government. That's exactly what we need in our next Deputy Leader.

Crucially, Caroline speaks to those voters we need to win back. Her approach is shaped by her own experiences growing up and grassroots campaigning. She has worked her way up, provided for her family and achieved success in her career. That's what most people want - a helping hand to get on.

The road back for Labour right across the UK will be long and difficult. We will not solve our many problems overnight. We will never solve them without a strong and effective leadership team that voters can relate to. Caroline Flint fits the bill.
