Labour is still coming to terms with its new identity after the landslide victory of Jeremy Corbyn. Without doubt, Corbyn has activated a base of left-leaning activists. His followers have been enthusiastic, and some, an estimated 12 per cent, are young.

This should bode well for the renewal of Labour’s base of active members. Engaging young people is important. Winning most votes among young people is welcome, as I am sure Labour will in 2020.

In the end, it was what wasn’t read out in the Autumn Statement, or even included in the Blue Book published with it ,that has had the biggest impact on energy policy.

The note slipped out to the market several hours later announcing that the Government were ending support for CCS (towards the end of the commercialisation project) stunned many.

After 17 years as a Doncaster MP, people still ask what an MP actually does. From clips on TV you might think we spend our week heckling each other across the Commons Chamber (most of us don’t).  Some people still think I live in London because I’m an MP (I don’t).

Remembrance_Conisbro.JPGIn this centenary year, we pay tribute to the many, many young men who died in WW1.  I’ve visited local history projects in Edlington and Conisbrough & Denaby that tell their stories.  Ordinary people, who served and never returned.  We won’t forget.  Which is why a small group of us are determined to honour the graves of WW1 servicemen, lost for time in an abandoned cemetery in Old Edlington.

I supported the recall of Parliament today, following the request by the Iraqi government for military assistance to tackle ISIL.  It is only right that Parliament is consulted if time permits.
