Caroline Flint joined Mayor Ros Jones and guests at the opening of Amazon’s latest fulfilment centre at iPort.
The MP unveiled a plaque to mark the opening of the third Amazon centre at the iPort, Doncaster, near Junction 3 of the M18.
Said Caroline: “It’s an honour to be asked to open the new Amazon Fulfilment Centre. This building is light and spacious and happens to be the size of 15 football pitches.
“This centre, a one million square feet centre workplace, which employs 1,000 staff, is an example of the scale of Amazon’s investment in Doncaster, and it also illustrates both the success of iPort and the incredible growth in jobs in the south of the borough, on the doorstep of Rossington
“It’s fascinating to see first-hand what goes on in this centre and it’s been great to learn how some of the products stowed here are shipped to customers. Not only has Amazon provided additional employment with excellent career and training opportunities in the area, it has also made a significant contribution to the wider community.”
During the visit, Caroline and Mayor Ros Jones packed some customer orders under the keen eye of Amazon Trainer Liam Holmes, from Warmsworth.
