Caroline Flint has confirmed that she will be a candidate for the post of Chair of the Home Affairs Committee, following the resignation of Keith Vaz.
The MP for Don Valley scored a success on Parliament’s first day back following the summer recess, when her amendment on multinational tax transparency was accepted into the Finance Bill.
Ms Flint, an MP for 19 years, and a backbencher for the first six years, is a former Home Office Minister and a former Europe Minister. She returned to the backbenches in September 2015 and has served the Commons Public Accounts Committee for the past year.
The Don Valley MP has served on three select committees during her parliamentary career.
Said Ms Flint: “The resignation of Keith Vaz is a tragedy for Keith and his family, but his work as Chair of the Home Affairs Select Committee has been widely praised. This Committee now requires an experienced, independent minded Chair to take its work forward.”
