Caroline Flint was given a rapid-fire guide to life as a barista, when she popped into the Hot Chocolate Lounge in Denaby Main this week.
Caroline spent an hour meeting staff finding out about the café’s activities, including creating new apprenticeships and supporting the community.
Said Caroline: “Hot Chocolate Lounge opened in September 2016 as a new business and training café, with funding from the Big Lottery.
“The café has started small, with four jobs, including trainee baristas. Already, the café has a regular customer base and offers the café as a venue for family events, baby showers etc. It has already developed a great partnership with the Co-op store in Swinton to reduce food waste and provides a catering service for community events, and for clients such as Kingswood Dearne Valley Centre and the De Warenne Academy.
“This café has strong social objectives, and wants to help tackle loneliness in the community. It also holds regular themed bistro nights, for up to 24 guests.
“With 18 months of funding, I hope Hot Chocolate Lounge can prove itself as a successful social enterprise and a real asset to the community.”
Hot Chocolate Lounge is run by Doncaster West Development Trust, and has three year’s funding from the Big Lottery.
