Caroline Flint MP was a guest of Royal Mail this week as she joined postal workers at the Conisbrough Delivery Office sorting and delivering the Christmas post.
Caroline joined Elaine Stevens, who has delivered for Royal Mail for six years, in Conisbrough to deliver Christmas post on her rounds.
Said Caroline: “This is the busiest time of year for postmen and women, doing a fantastic job delivering huge amounts of mail and parcels. My first thought was not to get in the way, but the staff were really friendly and Elaine took me under her wing for the morning.
“Postal workers like Elaine do such an important job at this time of year. It is obvious that Elaine knew so many of her customers, and was never in too much hurry to stop and say hello. People even came out of the house to greet her. It was clear that she was the only visitor some people might see that day. As she delivered hundreds of pieces or mail and parcels in time for Christmas, I realised that almost every delivery is keeping people in touch with or reminding them or those who are most important to them at Christmas. While we all think of taking a few days holiday, I hope we all spare a thought for Elaine, her colleagues and the many people doing important jobs to keep things going over the festive period.
Erin Theobold, Royal Mail Delivery Office Manager at Conisbrough, commented: “Our postmen and women are working extremely hard to deliver Christmas cards, letters and parcels to people across Conisbrough. We are grateful that Caroline visited the office to see our operation and to say hello to the team during our busiest time of year.
“We’d like to remind our customers to post early so that friends and family have longer to enjoy their Christmas greetings.”
The last posting dates for Christmas are: Second Class – Thursday 18th December First Class – Saturday 20th December Special Delivery – Tuesday 23rd December
Said Caroline: “You can also help Royal Mail ensure that all their letters, cards and parcels are delivered as quickly and efficiently as possible by taking a few easy steps. Post early, use a postcode – they are easier to sort and deliver. Finally, use Special Delivery for important or valuable packages. All Special Deliveries are tracked, traced and insured against loss.”
