Following the publication of Lord Carlile's Report on the J Children case, in which two brothers (J) attacked two younger Edlington boys, Doncaster MPs Caroline Flint, Rosie Winterton and Ed Miliband said:
“These reports make very serious reading for Doncaster Council. Its Children’s Services are now deemed ‘inadequate’ – a worse report than a year ago – and Lord Carlile’s report makes clear that progress in improving child protection is far from the standard it should have reached.
“Doncaster Council must urgently assess why its approach to child protection is failing to improve fast enough to provide the security vulnerable children require in our borough, three years on from the J Children case. The pace of change to improve this service must be faster.
“We are clear that the Ofsted report shows too much work is poor and unprofessional with too many families in great need.
“The Mayor and his cabinet must get to grips with the scale of this challenge to ensure the recovery the situation demands.”
The MPs are to meet with Education Secretary Michael Gove to discuss the situation.
