My expenses for 2014-15

Read about my expenses for 2014-15. Below is a summary of the basic costs of having a Doncaster MP working in London.

Caroline Flint's expenses

Caroline Flint said: “It is important that people see how much democracy costs.  I live in Doncaster so my travel reflects the costs of going back and forth each week to Westminster.  I have accommodation in Westminster, which I claim basic running costs for.  The main overheads is having a constituency office, which I pledged to have when I was first elected, and my staff of five.”

Caroline Flint has helped over 6,000 constituents since May 2010.  The Don Valley MP has over 70,000 constituents. The costs of supporting a constituency based MP is £2.20 per voter per year.

What are the expenses?

Travel – is mainly the cost of rail fares or cars journeys between Doncaster and London.
Accommodation – is electricity, council tax and service charges for my accommodation in London.
Office – is the cost of rent, phones, copiers, etc for the Auckley office, and stationery for both Doncaster and London.
Staff – this pays for an office manager and two caseworkers, a diary assistant and a researcher.
