Ofgem announcement confirms Government backsliding on price cap - says Flint

Commenting on Ofgem’s latest announcement of help for vulnerable customers, Caroline Flint said:

“Today’s announcement doesn’t even begin to fix our broken energy market.  It is not just vulnerable customers on the poorest value tariffs, it is 17 million customers, being ripped off to the tune of around £2 billion a year.”

In May, the PM pledged the Government would ‘protect around 17 million families on standard variable tariffs from being exploited…”  The Government has been backsliding ever since.

“With the Prime Minister weaker than ever, any chance of the Tories delivering fair energy prices has gone out of the window.

“The Government needs to act now, with a protected tariff for all standard variable tariff customers.”
