Caroline Flint has met with BT Openreach and Superfast South Yorkshire to address why some residents are still receiving slow internet speeds.
BT Openreach has the main contract with Government to install the broadband network. Superfast South Yorkshire (SSY) is a consortium of local councils that seeks to spread broadband coverage.
Don Valley MP Caroline Flint questioned the new Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport on his first public outing in his new job, asking him about poor broadband speeds for Don Valley residents.
Local residents from the newly-built Warren Park estate in Bessacarr got in touch with me about the poor quality internet supplied to the new housing development.
Despite Warren Park being a new estate, it was not included in Openreach’s plans for super-fast broadband. As such, an internet cabinet (Cantley Cabinet 28) that uses copper cables was installed with copper cables leading to properties on the new estate.
