Caroline Flint has congratulated the first local authorities and voluntary organisations to secure Government innovation funding to support children living with alcohol-dependent parents.
At an event organised by Public Health Minister Steve Brine, the Don Valley MP met with local authorities and voluntary organisations from across England who had been awarded the funding.
Caroline, who is herself a daughter of an alcoholic mother, said: “This funding could not be more important. One in five children in the UK are affected by a parent’s drinking, so innovative projects like these are absolutely essential in ensuring that all children’s voices are heard and their needs are met.”
Caroline Flint has welcomed £6million funding announced by Health Secretary, Jeremy Hunt for children of alcoholics, just six weeks after MPs met with the Secretary of State to ask for more Government support.
Ms Flint is Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Children of Alcoholics, which commissioned the report.
