The Government has published a draft Domestic Gas and Electricity (Tariff Cap) Bill to cap energy bills. See me tackle the Secretary of State over the Government's time wasting. Watch it HERE.
Caroline Flint told Secretary of State Greg Clark:
"Much of what I’m hearing is music to my ears because there has been fantastic cross party support on this issue and I welcome that.
"This Draft Bill is a vindication of Labour’s warnings since the data became available in 2011 that customers were being ripped off by the Big Six energy companies.
"The Secretary of State has accepted, finally, that customers were being overcharged by £1.4billion from 2012 to 2015.
"But I have to ask the Secretary of State will he admit that his proposals today will not help those many millions of customers who need help this winter.
"So why doesn’t he stop wasting time and use the extensive powers the Labour government gave him in the Energy Act 2010 which could bring an order to this House to cap prices right now.
Stop the dithering, we’ve had the debate, there are already price caps in place for pre-payment meters and for those on warm homes discount, do it for the rest of them now."
